ABSTRACT

Objective:To investigate the status of Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) health literacy and associated factors in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. Methods:Based on the multi-stage stratified sampling method, the questionnaire survey of health literacy of COVID-19 were carried out in 55 599 local residents from12 prefecture-level cities of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region between March 10 and 15, 2020. The questionnaire in details included not only knowledge, attitude and behavior, but also mental health, their scores were calculated using Decimal method. A ≥80% of the correct answer rate of the survey content was regarded as qualified for health literacy. There were 51 722 (93.0%) valid questionnaires, according to the ratio of medical staff to non-medical staff, 32 529 questionnaires were selected for analysis. The health literacy level was defined according to the proportion of qualified people. The credibility and availability of the questionnaires were evaluated by Cronbach′s α coefficient and KMO test. The associated factors were analyzed by Pearson χ 2 test and logistic regression. Results:In Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, the whole level of health literacy of COVID-19 was 85.7%, and their scores were (26.30±2.48). Knowledge, attitude, and behavioral literacy levels were 61.6%, 95.6%, and 96.8%, respectively. Compared with the population of 15-25 years old, the health literacy level of 46-65 years old was the highest ( OR=2.00, 95% CI: 1.78-2.24). The health literacy level of medical staff group ( OR=2.54, 95% CI: 1.30-4.95) was far higher than the non-medical staff group; the population with college or above education level ( OR=10.22, 95% CI: 9.19-11.36) was significantly higher than the population with education level below college. The degree of anxiety was negatively correlated with education level. Conclusions:The health literacy level of COVID-19 in residents in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region is relatively high, but the level of knowledge literacy needs to be improved. The main factors affecting the health literacy of COVID-19 among Inner Mongolia residents are age, occupation and education level.

ABSTRACT

Objective To compare the short-term clinical effect of the foam sclerotherapy combined with Melilotus Extract Tablets vs foam sclerotherapy alone in treating varicose veins of the lower extremities. Methods A retrospective cohort study was carried out in 120 cases receiving foam sclerotherapy in the Invasive Technology Department of Panyu District Central Hospital.Seventy-two patients in trial group wore graduated compression stockings and received oral use of Melilotus Extract Tablets after the operation, while 48 cases in the control group only wore graduated compression stockings after the operation. The follow-up for the two groups lasted for 3 months. We recorded the relief of symptoms (pain, soreness and distention) and physical signs (edema, hyperpigmentation, ulcer) after the operation. The grading levels of clinical-etiology-anatomic-pathophysiologic classification system (CEAP) for lower limb venous disease, venous clinical severity scores (VCSS) and disease quality-of-life questionnaire CIVIQ scores were observed before and after the operation. Results (1) Three months after the operation, the illness state of the two groups was improved to certain degree, and the differences of CEAP grading levels were insignificant(P > 0.05).(2) VCSS and CIVIQ scores of the two groups were improved after the operation (P < 0.01 compared with those before the operation),and the trial group had better effect on improving CIVIQ scores than the control group (P < 0.01).(3) The successful rate of the trial group was 88.89%,and that of the control group was 81.25%,the difference being insignificant (P > 0.05).(4) Time for obvious relief of lower limb symptom in the trial group was shorter than that in the control group (P < 0.05),but the time for hyperpigmentation and ulcer disappearing as well as the medical expenses in the trial group did not differ from those in the control group (P > 0.05).Conclusion Foam sclerotherapy combined with Melilotus Extract Tablets is effective, safe and economical for the treatment of varicose veins of the lower extremities, and its efficacy is superior to foam sclerotherapy alone.

ABSTRACT

Objective To explore the expression of heat shock protein (HSP) 90α in outside of different metastatic hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) cell lines and its role in the cells migration and invasion. Methods The expression of HSP90α was detected by Western blot analysis in conditioned media of MHCC97L and MHCC97H with low and high metastatic HCC cell lines.A small molecule cell-impermeant HSP90 inhibitor DMAG-N-oxide was used to inhibit extracellular HSP90α.Changes of the cells migratory and invasive capability were assessed by in vitro motility and invasion assay. The endogenous matrix metalloproteinase 2 (MMP-2) was demonstrated by Zymography. The expression of extracellular co-chaperone HSP70 and MMP-2 were tested by Western blots and the association between HSP90α,HSP70 and MMP-2 was analyzed by immunoprecipitation. The effects of HSP70 knockdown by siRNA,with or without MMP-2 inhibitor Batimastat,on the level of active MMP-2 and cell migration and invasion were also evaluated. Results HSP90α can express both inside and outside of different metastatic HCC cell lines, and the level of expression was consistent with metastasis potentials. After MHCC97-H cells were treated with a special HSP90α inhibitor DMAG-N-oxide for 24 h,the average migratory cell numbers (28.11 ±3.56) had a significantly reduction, compared with those without treatment group (80.12±4.16) and empty control group (82.24±4.12),respectively (P < 0.01).In vitro invasion assay showed the average invaded cell numbers in treatment group (36.54±4.12) were more fewer than without treatment group (95.12±3.48) and empty control group (101.1 1±3.36),respectively (P =0.017),and accompanying with decreasing of the extracellular MMP-2 activity.HSP70 and MMP-2 could express outside of MHCC97-H cells and interact with HSP90α.Small molecular interfere RNA (siRNA) dramatically inhibited HSP70 expression and reduced the interaction HSP90α with MMP-2 and MMP-2 activity outside MHCC97-H cells, and also suppressed MHCC97-H cells migration and invasion. In addition, combining MMP-2 inhibitor had additive inhibition effects. Conclusion Extracellular HSP90α and HSP70 form chaperone complex to assist in MMP-2 activation and increases HCC cells migration and invasion, which maybe a novel therapeutic target against metastatic HCC.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the immuno-modulatory effect of short course administration of somatostatin (stilamin) continuously at early stage in patients with severe acute pancreatitis (SAP). METHODS: Thirty-nine patients with SAP (22 men, 17 women; the middle age was 49 years)were randomly allocated into control group (20 patients treated with non-surgical integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine) and treatment group (19 patients treated with somatostatin administered intravenously at a dosage of 250 mug/h for consecutive 72 hours as well as the treatment for the control group). Laboratory parameters, including the expressions of CD(3), CD(4) and CD(8) in lymphocytes (tested by flow cytometry) and C reactive protein (CRP), and indexes of therapeutic effect, including the occurrence of organic dysfunction, local complication and mortality between the two groups were compared. Another group of 30 healthy volunteers (19 men, 11 women; the middle age was 47 years) were recruited for testing the normal levels of CD(3), CD(4) and CD(8). RESULTS: (1) The levels of CD(3), CD(4) and CD(4)/CD(8) in lymphocytes before treatment in both groups were significantly lower than those in the healthy subjects (P<0.05), but there were no statistical differences between the two groups. At the 4th day, CD(3), CD(4) and CD(4)/CD(8) increased significantly in the treatment group (P<0.05) while no changes in the control group; the levels of CD(4) and CD(4)/CD(8) in the treatment group were also higher than those in the control group (P<0.05). (2) The CRP levels of the 2 groups showed no statistical difference before and 4 days after the treatment, but the CRP level in the treatment group was significantly lower than that in the control group at the 7th day (P<0.05). WBC count, serum levels of amylase, lipase, lactate dehydrogenase, aspartate aminotransferase, as well as the score of APACHE II in the treatment group recovered more quickly than those in the control group (P<0.05). (3) The occurrences of organic dysfunctions, local complications and mortality in both groups were not statistically different. CONCLUSION: The short course administration of somatostatin continuously at early stage can reduce the inflammatory response, up-regulate the cell immune function and improve the conditions of the patients with SAP, but its effect on mortality and morbidity needs further study.
